This weekend Sunwook Kim makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sakari Oramo. Performing Unsuk Chin’s Piano Concerto – a work which Sunwook previously recorded with Myung-Whun Chung and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra – the concert will see a live audience return to the Philharmonie for the first of eight trial concerts with a half capacity audience.

Also marking the first time Sunwook will perform for a live audience in Europe since the pandemic began, he commented:

“…I realised how spoiled I may have been before the Corona-pandemic because I think I took a bit for granted to be able to perform live concerts in front of a live audience. Going through this past one year, It makes me feel so grateful to play live concerts, to collaborate with orchestra and to share with audience who come sit and listen in the same space. You can of course enjoy playing and listening to music at home through online concerts but I believe that music needs to be shared with people and that makes music have huge vitality. Moreover we can breath and feel together throughout the music which can only happen in live performance!..”

The concert will be broadcast live on Saturday 5 June at 19:00 (CEST) via the orchestra’s Digital Concert Hall.
