This week, pianist Sunwook Kimmakes his American Concerto debut with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in two performances of Dvorak’s Piano Concerto in G Minor, conducted by fellow Askonas Holt artist, Karina Canellakis.

Later this season, Sunwook will also make his debut with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, return to the BBC Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony orchestras as well as embark on a major tour of Korea, Italy, Switzerland and France with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Recital and chamber music highlights include a tour of Hong Kong with Istvan Vardai and appearances at the London Chopin Society, Wigmore Hall and AIX Festival.

Born in Seoul in 1988, Sunwook graduated from the Korean National University of Arts in February 2008, and then completed an MA in conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. Besides Leeds, international awards include the first prize at the 2004 Ettlingen Competition (Germany) and the 2005 Clara Haskil Competition (Switzerland). In 2013, Sunwook was selected by the Beethoven-Haus Bonn to become the first beneficiary of its new mentoring.
